Fat Tuesday

Every Tuesday my family goes to this CSA garden near my house ('cause we belong!), so my mom always has fresh basil for pesto! Now, I LOVE pesto infinitely, so this is one of my favorite traditions. My eight-year-old sister usually makes it, though, so I finally got her to explain to me how to make it. Pick the stems off of the pesto leaves and fill the cuisinart with a whole bunch of it (this recipe won't be that precise because it's being explained by my kid sister Thea). Pour a half a bag of pine nuts into the cuisinart. Pour olive oil in (she says you have to "judge" the amount.
Ehhheh), 1/4 block of cheese, a couple pinches of salt, and 1 clove of garlic (pressed). Turn the cuisinart on for about 30 seconds. Taste it to see if it needs anything. Scrape the sides. Put on for another 30 seconds. Done! The words of an eight-year-old! She even drew me a diagram.
Today we also made rainbow cupcakes in honor of Thea being bumped up to advanced gymnastics camp (she's with 12 year-olds now). I'm not even going to put the recipe up because while they tasted good, they had many problems. The tops browned too much, they stuck to the wrappers, and the icing was too thin. Fail. It was probably because we arbitrarily added bananas...
Oh, we're house-sitting the cutest bunny until Sunday! Best thing to ever happen to me!
